The ensemble De Formule is a young and adventurous piano quintet that assembles special programmes in unusual locations, with a boundless love for music and teamwork. This makes De Formule an innovative group and their concerts an experience.
The talented musicians graduated recently and are at the beginning of a promising career. They are fully engaged in developing themselves in various ways, with chamber music forming an important cornerstone. De Formule not only plays piano quintets but also other possible ensembles, such as string quartet, piano trio, violin, alto violin and cello sonatas. This gives them an enormous repertoire and much variety during performances.
For this performance the ensemble has teamed up with the Brazilian choreographer Samir Calixto (1978). Calixto was educated in dramatic art, dance and classical music at São Paulo University and the Music Academy of São Paulo City. In 2004 he made the crossing to Europe and decided to focus definitively on his dancing career. The cooperation with the musicians of De Formule is interesting because Calixto is not only a choreographer but also a trained musician. He therefore knows like no other how to convert the music into timeless choreography and thereby build an important bridge between music and dance.
This performance is a coproduction of Festival Classique and Korzo and is part of the Kweekvijver (Breeding Ground) Coaching Programme. In this programme young talented makers are assisted in perfecting their professional practice by experienced artistic and commercial coaches.
