The performances of Aida aan Zee are SOLD OUT. We are currently looking whether it is possible to expand the number of places. We will communicate this via our newsletter.
After the overwhelming success of Carmina Burana (2018) Festival Classique once again brings a spectacular opera to the Scheveningen beach: Aida at Sea.
Giuseppe Verdi wrote Aida in 1871 and since that time the opera has been a success worldwide. The opera takes place in the desert during a war between the two large African kingdoms of antiquity: the kingdoms of Egypt and Ethiopia. It goes without saying that the beach is the ideal location. Aida owes its popularity among other things to the spectacular Triumphal Scene, in which Radames is welcomed as a hero after his victory over the Ethiopians. In addition to this magnificent aspect, Aida is also characterized by the intimate moments in which the personalities of the characters come to the fore in an impressive manner.
Especially for Aida at Sea a new version has been arranged by Marijn van Prooijen. For this purpose the length of the original opera has been reduced from three hours to 75 minutes. The story measures up to the original. Naturally the famous Triumphal Scene is not lacking.
For this beach opera a project choir of more than 300 singers, talented dancers, wonderful soloists, Theatre Choir Dario Fo and a 12-piece orchestra join their forces. In combination with a setting on the beach during sunset, Aida at Sea will be an overwhelming and unforgettable experience. Aida at Sea is an initiative of Festival Classique in co-production with Korzo and in cooperation with Music Theatre Hollands Diep, ‘Kwekers in de kunst’ and the Zuiderstrand theatre.
Book Aida at Sea together with the performance of the Dutch Saxophone Octet and pay only € 42.50 for both performances.
The above-mentioned prices are exclusive of € 0.99 service charges per ticket and € 0.79 transaction charges for the use of iDEAL.
The performance takes place in the open air and is not covered. So keep an eye on the weather forecast and adjust your clothing to the weather. Umbrellas are not permitted during the performance. A performance will only be cancelled in the event of extremely bad weather. In that case you will be informed by email, at the latest at 18:00 hours on the day that the performance takes place. If you do not hear anything, the performance will simply take place. In the event of cancellation of the performance Festival Classique offers an alternative date, namely Sunday 16 June.
Aida at Sea is performed at Zuiderstrand. If you come by car, you can use paid parking at the Zuiderstrand theatre. The entrance and exit of the car park are located at Hellingweg. You can also park at Houtrustweg. The available parking spaces are limited. So consider travelling by public transport or come by bicycle. Bus 28 (HTM) runs from The Hague Central Station to the Zuiderstrand theatre.
Aida at Sea takes place on the beach. If you have difficulty walking, use a wheelchair or a rollator, we will be pleased to assist you. Please contact Festival Classique in advance via firstname.lastname@example.org for more information and/or to book a wheel chair place.
