Programme

After the crowd pleasers Carmina Burana (2018) and Aida at Sea (2019) it is time for a new compelling and grand beach opera: La Traviata. More than 250 amateur singers and top soloists such as Jessey-Joy Spronk, Denzil Delaere and Frank Dolphin Wong present the tragic story of the impossible love between the young nobleman Alfredo and the courtesan Violetta.

“La Traviata” is perhaps the best-known opera in history. Director Sybrand van der Werf is making a contemporary, shortened version of Verdi’s masterpiece for this beach performance. Passion and self-sacrifice meet in a decor that switches between the Parisian upper-class and the French countryside. The beach of Scheveningen offers the possibility of capturing the opera at its core: the tension between human and nature. In the (sometimes literally) moving environment the leading characters try to survive. They brave the elements and flourish in the vastness of the beach.

Slagwerk Den Haag, Aart Strootman and the Plastic Soup Surfer Merijn Tinga

Via a composition of Aart Strootman performed by Slagwerk Den Haag, the Sea Surround Sound Film will enable you to experience the mission of the Plastic Soup Surfer, Merijn Tinga through the senses. The actions of Merijn Tinga can be seen on a screen and are reinforced by the live sounds of Slagwerk Den Haag.

The composition, called Bauxite, has been inspired by the actions and ambitions of the Plastic Soup Surfer. It is a resounding reflection of what the Plastic Soup Surfer tries to challenge: endless plastic pollution and the persistent consumer society.

This performance starts with a short introduction of fifteen minutes (16:30 – 16:45 hours). And this is followed by the performance of one hour (16:45 – 17:45 hours).
