Programme

Brewed has a penchant for new, seemingly impossible musical combinations. The band presents its own compositions in which Renaissance music and rock come together, and fuses Ravel’s music with the blues. With a colourful palette of strings, guitar and vocals, Brewed cooks up a vibrant brew of classical, jazz, pop and everything in between.

Performers

  • Benjamin de Boer – double bass/vocals
  • Cem Karayalçin – guitar
  • Job Huiskamp – cello
  • Valentine Blangé – violin

The band members of Brewed met at the Amsterdam Conservatory. All members write music for the band. Since Brewed consists of four quite different individuals, each with a unique style, this results in colourful programmes. For instance, Benjamin, the band’s bassist and vocalist, prefers to write pop songs in which he incorporates sensitive and personal themes. The compositions of Cem, a jazz guitarist through and through, are stylish and intelligent. Cellist Job is fascinated by harmony and likes to push the boundaries in his work. Violinist Valentine adds a love of melody to the mix, resulting in elegant, cheerful and playful pieces.

In addition to Brewed, Valentine is also making strong progress as a soloist; for instance, she won the Young Creators Prize at the Netherlands Violin Competition in 2022. Valentine has been selected for the Festival Classique coaching programme. The festival supports young talented musicians in researching and perfecting their professional development as creators. During the coaching programme at Festival Classique, Valentine wants to focus on new music, improvisation and theatrical elements.
